Nutrition & Health OnLine Magazine: Editor's View

Editor's View
In each issue of Nutrition & Health OnLine Magazine we try to cover topics that will help our readers to accomplish their individual goals toward improving their health and physical appearance. One topic that seems to have almost universal appeal is weight loss or more accurately fat loss. In this issue of Nutrition & Health OnLine Magazine we have tried to cover this subject in a variety of different ways ranging from basic guidelines to what supplements work the best.
Why do we feel that it is necessary to devote so much time to this subject? The answer can be summed up in two words: scope and seriousness. Scope refers to how many people are affected by this problem. The latest numbers say that over half of all Americans are now considered obese. Obesity is considered a disease and means that a person has a body fat percentage of at least 30 percent. Think about it. Over half our population has a serious disease and yet you hear very little about it by the media.
Seriousness refers to all the health problems associated with having excess body fat. In 1995 the results were released from a landmark research study done by researchers at Harvard Medical School that examined more than 115,000 nurses. The study concluded that ANY excess weight has a negative impact on health and that at least 300,000 premature deaths a year can be linked to being overweight.
If you are looking to make a positive change in yourself as you start a new Year and a new Millenium then losing excess fat may just be the most beneficial thing that you can do. Not only will you improve your overall health but you will be amazed at how much better you will look and feel. Hopefully the articles that we have included in this edition of Nutrition & Health OnLine Magazine will give you some valuable information that will help you accomplish your weight loss goals.
